The Movement for Quality Government sent a letter to Kadima head Tzipi Livni this week calling on her to replace Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann. The group accused Friedmann of undermining the court system. Leaving Friedmann in power “would send a negative message of de facto support for the policies of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert,” the group said.
Friedmann has led a campaign to reduce the power held by the Supreme Court and to include fewer sitting judges in the selection of new judges. Friedmann argues that his proposals will lead to a more equal balance of power between the legislative branch and the judiciary.
