Medical insurance carriers in Israel have started to offer flu vaccinations free of charge to members. The Clalit carrier reported buying 620,000 doses, and Maccabi reported buying 250,000. The hope is that more people will choose to be vaccinated before the flu season.
Preference will be given to patients already suffering from other illnesses, those who are not ambulatory as they are more prone to develop complications if they do contract the flu. Elderly and healthcare workers will also be given a level of priority.
