Iran Would Trade Halt in Enrichment for Fuel Guarantee
An Iranian official suggested on Thursday that his country would consider stopping sensitive uranium enrichment if guaranteed a supply of nuclear fuel from abroad. Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told reporters at a Brussels conference that the Islamic Republic would need to retain some enrichment as a contingency in case supplies were cut.Iran has previously brushed off similar offers when made by others. The Tehran government says the country's nuclear development is solely for production of electricity, while Israel and the West believe it's being used to develop atomic weapons.
