Media: Three Different Views on Kadima

Israel's three leading Hebrew newspapers Tuesday took entirely different views on Kadima and its new chairperson, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. An op-ed article in Ma'ariv stated she must offer Labor party chairman Ehud Barak the Foreign Ministry and Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) the Defense Ministry "if she wants to avoid becoming a footnote between Olmert and Netanyahu."

The left-leaning Yediot Acharonot daily presented the opinion that Kadima "will draw most of its electoral support from Labor and is likely to inherit in perpetuity [the title] as Israel's main left-wing party."

However, the right-leaning Yisrael HaYom opined that Kadima is a "semi-fictitious' party that "will want to run away from new Knesset elections as if it were on fire, because it seems that at least 50 percent of its own members won't vote for it."
