Al Qaeda-Linked Group Responsible for Pakistan Attack

The massive suicide truck bombing attack on the Islamabad Marriott Hotel in Pakistan Saturday appears to have been the work of a group linked to the international Al Qaeda terrorist organization.

A group which identified itself as the Partisans of Islam (Fedayeen Islam) claimed responsibility for the attack in a phone call to the Islamabad-based correspondent for the Al Arabiya news channel. At least 53 people were killed in the attack, which wounded more than 270 others. Two Americans and the Czech Ambassador died in the blast.

Pakistani intelligence agents reported overhearing Al Qaeda operatives celebrating the attack.
