Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann criticized Supreme Court President Dorit Beinish on Monday after Beinish called off a meeting of the Nominations Committee. Beinish argued that the committee should not pick new Supreme Court justices while the country is ruled by a transition government.
Beinish herself was appointed while the country was ruled by a transition government, eight days after former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin was assassinated, Friedmann pointed out. “She had no problem with it,” he said.
Friedmann and Beinish have often fought over the process of judicial nominations. Friedmann believes the current process gives too much power to judges.
