The chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary (J.T.S.) in Manhattan says he wants Zionism not to negate the Diaspora, be messianic, or displace non-Jews.
Arnold Eisen, the head of the flagship American seminary of Conservative Judaism, says Zionism should start focusing on creating a role for minorities within Israel.
The J.T.S. recently hosted a conference called "Why Israeli Arab issues are so important to Israel's future as a Jewish state," celebrating an award given to the J.T.S., among other organizations, for their work in trying to secure social and political equality for Israeli Arabs.
Eisen said that Israeli Arabs will be more likely to feel a sense of belonging in Israel if they are well integrated and presented with opportunities.
