Teva Drug Showing Significant Success Against M.S.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries reports that its multiple sclerosis (M.S.) treatment Laquinimod continues to be effective and well tolerated in an extension phase of an earlier trial.

New data from the extension phase of oral Laquinimod in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (R.R.M.S.) showed a  52 percent reduction in the mean number of gadolinium-enhancing (GdE) lesions in patients who switched from placebo to Laquinimod.

The latest study showed that once-daily oral Laquinimod doses also reduced disease activity by an average of 60 percent.

Teva rose 0.6 percent on the Nasdaq on Friday, and soared 7 percent in early trading on the T.A.S.E. Sunday.
