Senior Palestinian Authority negotiator Ahmed Qureia said he welcomes the victory of Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in the Kadima leadership elections because she "was immersed in the peace process [and] we believe she will pursue peace moves with us."
Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior official in the de facto Hamas government in Gaza, criticized her victory as "another sign of the collapse of Israeli society after the departure of [Israel's] founding generation and the takeover by weak personalities, started with Olmert and then Livni. From a political perspective, there is no change in direction or leadership policies towards the Palestinians."
