Olmert Accuses Yitzhar Residents of 'Pogrom'
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert harshly criticized residents of the Samarian town of Yitzhar during Sunday morning's cabinet meeting, accusing them of carrying out a “pogrom” in response to the attempted murder of a local child. After denouncing the attack on the child as “grave and serious,” Olmert slammed residents' response, saying it was “violent and brutal” and would not be tolerated.
Residents of Yitzhar entered the nearby Arab village of Asira el-Kabaliya on Saturday morning when an Arab terrorist fled Yitzhar in the direction of the village after stabbing a young Jewish child. Residents of Yitzhar claim that villagers attacked them, leading them to open fire in self-defense, while villagers claim that they were attacked first. Arab sources say that six locals were wounded in the fighting.
