Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied that Georgian breakaway region South Ossetia harbors ambitions to become part of his nation.

The comments came in direct contradiction to statements by the region's leader, Eduard Kokoity, who said earlier in the week that his population was hoping to join with Russia.
