Sales of apples have soared 20 percent a week towards Rosh HaShanah, and approximately 2,500 tons of apples are sold each week during the pre-holiday period. Galilee agricultural officials report.
A Jewish tradition is to dip apples in honey on the holiday as a sign of a sweet year ahead. The apple crop has almost doubled, from 60 tons to 115 tons, in the past decade, allowing more efficient marketing, according to Amos Levin, director of the council of Galilee apple growers.
