Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, a leading national religious rabbi, has said that Jews should remain in Israel on Rosh HaShanah, and he discouraged the annual pilgrimage of Breslov followers to pray at the Uman, Ukraine grave of the movement's founder, Rebbe Nachman.
Writing in a weekly Torah bulletin, he frowned on men who leave behind their wives and children to spend the two-day holiday in Uman. He said the phenomenon presents a problem in terms of morals as well as Jewish law.
