PLO Soap Opera Postponed Until Liberal Scenes Edited

The official Palestine Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has canceled the airing scheduled for this week of a new soap series, Matabb (Arabic for "speed bump"). The production team speculated that official PLO television disapproved of topics on the show which might be perceived as liberal.

The German-funded series will be postponed until certain scenes are changed to comport with PLO sensibilities.  Some of the offensive scenes include one in which Israeli possession of parts of Israel is not portrayed in a negative enough light, and one in which an Arab gives a flower to Israeli soldiers at a security checkpoint in Judea and Samaria.

The first episode had been expected to be aired on Palestine TV on Monday, first day of the Muslim fast of Ramadan, with producers hoping for high ratings as Muslim families gather in the evenings to break the day's fast.
