Mofaz Tries to Break Livni's 'Clean' Image

Transportation and Road Safety Minister Sha'ul Mofaz came out swinging at Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni Saturday night and tried to tarnish her image of being "squeaky clean." Mofaz and Livni are running for Kadima Party leader, in primaries to be held Sept. 17.

Mofaz accused Livni's campaign manager of running her Kadima leadership campaign out of his office as director of the government-financed Fund for the Welfare of Holocaust Survivors. Aides to the Foreign Minister said her opponent's charges represented "embarrassing behavior" on his part.

Polls have shown Foreign Minister Livni far ahead of Mofaz and two other candidates, with the likelihood that she will win the party primaries with at least the 40 percent plurality that is required to prevent a second round of voting.
