Six Israeli Air Force jets broke the sound barrier over Tyre Wednesday, Lebanese security officials claimed. Sources told the French news agency AFP the planes "flew all over southern Lebanon and the city of Tyre at low altitude for more than an hour and broke the sound barrier twice over Tyre." The IDF has not commented.
Israeli jets have flown over southern Lebanon frequently since the end of the Second Lebanon War because of continuing Hizbullah smuggling of weapons from Syria, in violation of the ceasefire agreement. However, AFP told its readers only that Israel was violating the truce by the flyovers.
