Port workers in Ashdod and Haifa ports were ordered back to work by the National Labor Court Tuesday night following labor sanctions launched last week in response to the 2009 Economic Arrangements Bill. The workers were to be back on the job by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. There were no indications they had violated the order.
The court also ordered the government back into negotiations with union representatives to work out a resolution to the dispute, which centers on a cluase which would allow the Israel Ports Company to manage operations at the ports addition to acting as landlord of the property and managing the government's assets in international maritime transactions.
The plan is to be suspended while talks continue up to a period of three weeks.
