Reservist Major General Amos Gilad, who heads the security-political bureau of the Defense Ministry, has been named the temporary coordinator in Judea and Samaria until the IDF Chief of Staff and Defense Minister can agree on a permanent replacement. Gilad replaces Major General Yosef Mishlav, who has served in the post for four years and with the IDF for 35 years.
IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi opposed two people who Defense Minister Ehud Barak suggested for the post, one of them being the brother of Minister of Welfare Yitzchak Herzog (Labor). Gilad has served as coordinator in the past.
