Almost two-thirds of Israelis support an independent state inquiry on government and military management of the retaliation against the Hizbullah terrorist war on Israel, according to a poll commissioned by Voice of Israel government radio. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has opposed an independent inquiry, claiming it would take too much time. He originally authorized Defense Minister Amir Peretz to appoint a panel, including a close military aid, to conduct the probe, but the idea was quickly scrapped because of overwhelming criticism.
