Half of American Scientists To Be Awarded Are Jewish

Four Jewish scientists, including two who fled the Nazis, represent half the number of Americans to be awarded the National Medal of Science by American President George W. Bush next month. Their work has focused on cell technology, nuclear physics, computer science and biochemistry.

One of the four is Italian-born Andrew J. Viterbi of San Diego, who is considered the father of cell technology and who started up the cell phone company Qualcomm.
