The theft of eight Torah scrolls from a Long Island synagogue and anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on two other houses of worship have left New York City Jewish communities in shock. The thefts follow several others in Midwestern states.
Police found no forced entry into the synagogue, where the thieves managed to take away the Torah scrolls despite the presence of an alarm system. The scrolls are valued at approximately half a million dollars.
Graffiti, including the slogan "Die Jews," was spray painted on an outside wall near the Dix Hills Jewish Center.
