Minister of Internal Security Avi Dichter stated that Israel could withdraw from the Golan Heights for the sake of true peace with Syria. "The territorial concessions are similar to those we paid for peace with Jordan and Egypt,” stated Dichter. However, he added that the “water issue and the Kinneret are a matter that I would not yield on so easily."
--The commander of infantry forces has said the IDF was "guilty of arrogance" in the retaliation against Hizbullah terrorist attacks on northern Israel. Brigadier General Yossi Heiman said that junior commanders and soldiers in the field fought heroically, but that senior officers have not admitted their failures. "I failed to prepare the infantry better for war. I did not manage to prevent burnout among professional companies and platoons. I feel no relief whatsoever in the face of the array of excuses."
