High Court Sends Asael Suspects to House Arrest

The High Court reversed Sunday a decision by the Be'er Sheva District Court and decided to release three Jews accused of violence against Arabs and send them to house arrest. The three – Lior Ben-David, Mordechai Azouriel and Eyal Rachamim of Asael, south of Hevron – are accused of chasing after an Arab who "accidentally" started a fire on their land, beating him with sticks, tying him up and dragging him on the ground.

Justice Asher Grunis explained that the three acted out of ideological motives and therefore are unlikely to commit similar offenses if they are not near their home community. They will be sent to their parents' homes in Jerusalem and Be'er Sheva and will wear electronic bracelets.
