The Bush administration turned down an Israeli request for military equipment that would have improved Israel's capability in a military strike on Iran's developing nuclear facility, according to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz. Instead, the American government offered to help beef up Israel's defense systems.

The U.S. reportedly advised Israel against attacking Iran and demanded prior notice if it were to act unilaterally and stage an attack. The chairman of the American Joint Chiefs of Staff has visited Israel twice in the past year, but the nature of the trip was not disclosed.
