An Israeli journalist was wounded while covering the clashes between Russia and Georgia in the center of the South Ossetian city of Gori on Tuesday afternoon. Tzadok Yechezkeli, 52, known as a top journalist in Israel, was a winner of the 2002 Israeli Press Committee's Sokolov Prize for investigative journalism.
A reporter for the Hebrew-language daily newspaper Yedioth Achronot, Yechezkeli sustained serious wounds to his upper body when an artillery shell landed nearby. He was evacuated to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi where he is currently undergoing surgery.
Several other journalists in the area were also wounded in the same attack, including one Dutch reporter who died of his wounds.
