Russian troops apparently broke the ceasefire President Dimitri Medvedev said he ordered at midday on Tuesday, continuing with air strikes on two villages outside the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

The Georgian government said in a statement that Russian military aircraft were continuing their sorties despite Medvedev's statements.
