Harry Potter books that are printed in Arabic in Syria and Lebanon have been barred from Israel under a 1939 British mandate decree against importing books published in countries at war with what is now Israel. The ban also applies to other books, including Pinocchio.
"The trade and industry ministry and treasury warned me that importing those books is illegal," said Israeli Arab publisher Salah Abassi, who bought the books through a Jordanian exporter.
