The Kassam rocket that exploded in the middle of Sderot an hour ago is the 40th violation of the seven-week-old temporary ceasefire, according to an IDF spokesman. The latest attack exploded in an open area next to a pre-school facility that was empty, and there were no injuries or damage.
Hamas has blamed other terrorists for most of the ceasefire violations and has accused Israel of breaking the truce by not re-opening the Rafiah border. Israel has said that the agreement calls for opening up the border when kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit is freed.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak previously has closed the Gaza crossings following rocket attacks but has not repeated the sanctions in the past week, when three rockets struck Israel.
