Dina Gottliebova Babbitt, who survived Auschwitz by drawing portraits for Nazi criminal Dr. Josef Mengele, is hoping that a comic book can help her retrieve her artwork, which was stolen and now is in the hands of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Poland. She agreed to draw for the Nazi criminal after he consented to spare her mother from death.
The museum has refused to return the artworks to the artist, who lives in California. Three comic book artists, who have drawn several comic book heroes, have drawn up a six-page booklet with text written by the director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies.
