Jewish Agency Declares End to Falashmura Aliyah

A flight carrying 65 "Falashmura" immigrants to Israel from Ethiopia Tuesday morning was declared to be the last one in a five year project which brought 16,000 Falashmura Olim – immigrants – to Israel. The Jewish Agency's Aliyah representative in Addis Ababa was scheduled to return to Israel Tuesday as well, and the Agency's team in the Ethiopian capital will be reduced, and shall consist only of local citizens.

The total number of Falashmura in Israel is estimated at 35,000. They are descendants of Ethiopian Jews who converted to Christianity several generations ago. Upon making Aliyah, they undergo a conversion process to Judaism.
