Motorists can expect more traffic jams in Jerusalem because of the continuing work on the light railway system, and traffic pattern changes on Yafo Road will begin Sunday. The public is advised to use the "park and ride" service from the Jerusalem Convention Center (Binyanei HaUma). Yafo Road will become a one-way street, and only for permitted vehicles, from Safra Square to King George Avenue.

After the work is completed, the city plans to turn Yafo Road into a pedestrian mall, with 500 new trees. The only transportation will be via the light railway system, which has been beleaguered by cost overruns and delays and now is scheduled to open in 2010.
