Major General Avi Zamir, who last week replaced Maj.-Gen. Elazar Stern as head of the IDF Manpower division, has done away with his predecessor's calling the department the Human Resources division. Maj.-Gen. Stern caused constant controversy expanding his division's activities. 

He also tried to institute polices that included an attempt to force religious combat soldiers to serve in the same units as women.
