Israel Replacing Gaza's Worn Out Currency Bills

On Thursday, the state of Israel will begin replacing worn and torn shekel bills that were collected by authorities in Gaza.

Tens of millions of worn shekel notes will pass through the Erez crossing in northern Gaza to Israel, under heavy security. After they are inspected, new bills for the same amount will be supplied to Gaza.

Israeli authorities decided upon these steps after unnamed Arab elements asked the security establishment to assist Gaza – which is run by Hamas – in the matter.
