Deputy State Attorney Yehoshua Lamberger informed the Movement for Quality Government Sunday that there will not be criminal charges against Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) regarding suspicions of improper political appointments.
The State Comptroller's Report found evidence of nepotism and cronyism in appointments made by Ben-Eliezer as Infrastructures Minister in 2005 and 2006. In "a large majority" of the cases in which Ben-Eliezer intervened in appointments, the prosecution found no political connection between Ben-Eliezer and the appointee.
The state also found that Ben-Eliezer did not exert undue pressure on the Electric Company regarding appointments.
