The government abandoned the sick and left northern residents dependent on private citizens to help them during the Second Lebanon War, according to a highly critical report on the Home Front Command prepared by State Comptroller and Ombudsman Micha Lindenstrauss. The former justice singled out Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, among others, for the failures.

The British intercepted the illegal immigrant ship Exodus 1947 with 4,515 persons aboard and towed it into the Haifa harbor. The immigrants were transferred to three deportation ships, which sailed west, but not to Cyprus.
