The Hamas authority in Gaza has banned the sale of cigarettes, gum and candy in public places. Hamas police will give offenders 48 hours to remove their stalls on street corners and other public places or face confiscation of their goods.

The law is aimed at protecting children who often pass time in the streets, Hamas officials explained.
