Forty-six percent of Israelis prefer Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain as the next president of the United States, according to a recent poll carried out by the Peace Index Project at Tel Aviv University. Only 20 percent said they back Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.
Both candidates want sanctions against Iran because of its development of a nuclear reactor, but Sen. Obama has relied more on a policy of giving Iran more incentives to change its policies. The poll was conducted before Sen. Obama's recent interview with CNN, in which he admitted he made mistake in stating earlier this year that Jerusalem should be the undivided capital of Israel.
