Israel's two leading Hebrew dailies expressed concerns that the police are acting improperly by leaking to the media information in the criminal investigation against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. "The police are opening all the information taps because they fear that they will not reach an indictment and a conviction." Yediot Aharonot speculated. Ma'ariv charged that taking the issue to the media "smacks of a kangaroo court."
The lead editorial in Israel's third largest Hebrew daily Haaretz stated that "the impending end of the Ehud Olmert era is now unavoidable." It charged that Prime Minister Olmert has dealt a "double blow" to public confidence in government institutions by behavior that has prompted several criminal investigations and by his attacks on the police, prosecution and Attorney General.
