Israel has insisted that Hamas free kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit before the government releases hundreds of Arab terrorists, according to the London-based Arabic newspaper Ash-Sharq il-Awsat.

It said that Egyptian mediator Omar Suleiman told Hamas that Israel has withdrawn from a previous understanding that it would free terrorists who were sentenced to long terms in prison without receiving Shalit.
