Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's confidantes reacted Friday to the new suspicions announced by the Justice Ministry and police and said they were meant to cover for the lack of substance in the "cash envelopes" allegations involving businessman Moshe Talansky.

"The very fact that the police and Justice Ministry gave a joint announcement is an attempt to create a drama that is out of place," the anonymous confidantes said. "The police know that Talansky's testimony is a lost case for them and that is why they are trying to create a new spin."

The confidantes added: "These are materials which were handed over to the police in an orderly fashion and we do not understand what the drama is about. Olmert did not take money for his private pocket. This is an account for lecture tours."
