Poll: Olmert Could Win Primaries if Suspicions Cleared

A poll of Kadima members showed Friday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert could win in the party's primary race, but only if he is cleared of "a substantial portion" of the suspicions against him. The poll gives Olmert 30 percent of the votes compared to 29 percent for Tzipi Livni in such a scenario.

As things stand, however, 79 percent of the people polled said Olmert should resign and make way for whoever is selected in the primaries and 57 percent said he should not participate in the primaries.

If Olmert participates in the primaries, the poll determined, Livni would gain 37 percent of the vote, versus 18 percent for Olmert and 22 percent for Shaul Mofaz. If he does not, Livni will get 41 percent and Mofaz 30 percent.
