Three people have been arrested in Peru in connection with the murder of Israeli tourist Tamar Shahak. Shahak, 22-years-old, was found strangled to death on May 4 in the southern Peruvian town of Arequipa.
Peruvian police have identified samples of Shahak's hair and blood in the car of one of the suspects, and her passport and a Hebrew book she was carrying were also found in his home. According to local media, police said that the three suspects would target unsuspecting tourists, and pose as taxi drivers. The three would then take their passenger to a remote area, where they would sexually assault and murder her.
Police estimate the three had done this to at least two other girls.
