Judge Zeiler Tells Cabinet it Must Vote for Inquiry (IsraelNN.com) Judge (ret.) Vardi Zeiler, who headed a committee which inquired into the Ramon wiretaps, told the government Sunday it must establish a committee with powers of subpoena to look into the matter. "If we let the matter go without an investigation, this is a sin on top of an evil, on top of a crime," Zeiler told the cabinet. According to leaks from the stormy session, things have now quieted down and Attorney General Menachem Mazuz is speaking. The issue has divided the nation's top officials, politicians and journalists into two rival camps: Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann's camp believes that a thorough investigation will show collusion between Supreme Court judges and police investigators in order to frame Ramon for a sexual misdeed and remove him from office. The judicial and law enforcement establishment as well as leftist politicians accuse Friedmann of trying to scare the investigators who will decide in the cases against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
