Rabbi Cherlo Opposes Inquiry into Wiretaps

(IsraelNN.com) Rabbi Yuval Cherlo of Petach Tikva Yeshiva came out Sunday against the establishment of a committee of inquiry into the matter of the wiretaps against Minister Chaim Ramon. "If indeed illegal wiretaps were made against Minister Ramon during the police investigation into his matter, this must be looked into," he wrote. He added, however, that "The last people who have the right to discuss this are Israel's government [ministers]."

Cherlo noted that several of the ministers, including the Prime Minister, have been guilty of improper behavior and that "when the present government calls for an investigation of the police in is in fact bringing down the rule of law in Israel and giving an ever-strengthening feeling that everything is a manipulation."
