Mazuz Bashes His Boss Over Wiretap Committee

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz attacked his boss, Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann, in a letter to the government secretariat regarding Friedmann's intention to establish a governmental committee to investigate the wiretaps made in last year's investigation of Vice Premier Chaim Ramon for indecent behavior. "Friedmann is abusing his authority and conducting a vendetta against the law enforcement establishment," Mazuz wrote.

Minister Friedmann noted that the decision to create the committee was taken unanimously in the Knesset's Constitution, Law and Justice Committee and that it was "too bad that instead of acting and establishing a committee of inquiry, Mazuz elected to hurl accusations at me."

The committee Friedmann wants to create would have the power to summon witnesses and make personal recommendations. The government will vote on the proposal Sunday.
