A British high court judge has ruled that a Jewish day school was within its rights to reject entry to a boy who underwent conversion at a synagogue that is not orthodox. The school receives public funds, but the judge denied a suit by the boy's father, saying that ruling against the school would mean every religious school's admission requirements would be illegal.
The father argued that his son was not rejected on the basis of faith. Orthodox tradition does not recognize conversions performed by rabbis who do not totally accept the written and oral Torah.
