El Al Airlines has announced it is shutting down its direct flights to Miami because of rising fuel prices. The sharp rise in the price of crude oil "requires us to re-examine the economic worthwhileness [sic] of every single flight," El Al chief executive Chain Romano said in a statement.
He added that another factor is the size of the market. El Al plans to increase passenger traffic by maintaining direct flights to New York, Los Angeles and Toronto.
