All Eyes on Shas 24 Hours Before Dissolution Vote

A majority of 68-69 Knesset Members have stated they will vote for a bill to be presented at noon Wednesday for dissolving the Knesset, but Shas still is prepared to change its position and vote against the bill if the government restores higher child support payments. Finance Minister Roni Bar-On (Kadima) already has rejected granting Shas's demands, but the government is trying to offer alternative incentives, which Shas so far has rejected.

The left-wing Meretz party has said that if there is a majority for the bill, its five MKs will join in putting an end to the Olmert government.
