Jordan’s State Security Court convicted three Hamas terrorists, caught in 2006, to sentences ranging from five to fifteen years for planning terror attacks against Israeli civilian targets in the kingdom. They targeted the Israeli embassy and ambassador, as well as companies that do business with Israel. The original sentence of death was commuted due to the convicted terrorists’ relative young age.
Jordanian security forces have arrested tens of suspected terrorists in recent years, mostly suspected of attempting to strike Western targets. Jordanian cooperation has been called "crucial" by US officials in the war on terror.
