Following deliberations this morning in response to projected tax and pension-plan reforms proposed by Finance Minister Roni Bar On (Kadima), the Histadrut has declared it will open a general strike starting on July 1. The period until July 1, the Histadrut stated, is to allow the Finance Ministry time to consider other options to resolve the issue.
The strike will include most major public sector and government institutions including the Israel Airports Authority (Ben Gurion and others), Israel Railways, all Israeli ports, The Israel Electric Company, Israeli Aircraft Industries, all government hospitals, the Israel Tax Authority, the Israel Land Administration, the Bank of Israel, the Israel Broadcast Authority, The National Insurance Institute, Israel Military Industries, the Israel Post Office, Bezeq and all Ministries.
